Sex Toy Price Sharks
Don’t you hate it when you are looking for a specific product online, only to find an ad saying “Get the new (insert relevant text here) here now for only £7 (or other relevant low price)? You think great, fantastic, this was much easier than I thought it would be, plus I’m going to save myself some dosh! You click expectantly on the link, to have a professionally designed website pop up with the product you were looking for. Everything is going great. Oh. Except that the price on the website is by no stretch of the imagination anywhere near the price that was advertised. Sigh.
I find this especially true with popular items like The Cone and Rock Chick. It’s advertised at one price, and on clicking the ad you find it’s actually much more expensive. What is with this? Do they think that I’m going to buy it regardless after they lied to me? Do I really want to pay extra for expected inclusions like batteries? If I’m spending £50 on an item, surely someone can throw in some batteries! It’s not like it’s going to sit on my coffee table as a decoration (unless of course you are just trying to keep 1 step ahead of your friends and got it for boasting rights, which is also perfectly acceptable)!
I can’t speak for other people but I go into “block/delete” mode and that store leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Hey, maybe I’m being unfair, possibly the blame lies at their marketing department for not keeping their ad’s updated? Maybe the owner has been on holiday and hasn’t updated anything? Maybe it’s all automated and the computer does everything? As much as I try and be charitable towards this, it still doesn’t help me, the consumer, who is sitting on a website with a product that they now cannot justifying buying because they had committed themselves to the price that was seen originally. It’s a bit galling to have to spend £10 more on something just because you were lured there. Where does it end? These sites inevitably advertise “Discreet delivery in plain packaging”, for all I know it’s going to arrive in dildo wrapping paper for my roommate/mother/other to receive on my behalf. Or may not even arrive at all!
In the world of sex toys discretion and honesty is very important, more so than buying other items over the net because of the sensitivity of the contents. I think that the stores need to start promoting this instead of preying on the consumer with promises of low prices. If you come across a website that advertises a product and said product IS actually that price, they are a keeper in my book! Honest pricing=honest store, and my mother doesn’t receive a dildo wrapped package from the post office!
